The US Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps has 4 former Marines among its ranks. One member, Jennifer Bailey, is also an active member of the Band of America’s Few. The following is a brief biography.
Jennifer enlisted in 1996, attended Recruit Training at Parris Island, SC. She served in the Quantico Marine Band and as the Flute instructor at the Navy School of Music.
While at the Quantico Marine Band she was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal. Later she was the honor graduate from Sergeants Course. In 2000 she attended the Ceremonial Conductor/Drum Major Course and was the Honor Graduate. Upon Graduation, Jennifer was selected as the flute instructor for the Army, Navy and Marine musicians.
In 2003, there was an opening in The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. Jennifer auditioned, accepted, and released from the Marine Corps for enlistment into the Army. Jennifer is a State Funeral continuity Subject Matter Expert at the Capitol, and currently serving in that capacity for the flyaway portion of a state funeral.
Jennifer was promoted to Sergeant First Class in 2007 and will remain at that rank until retirement in 2016. She is married and has a daughter. She is currently working on a Master’s in Secondary Education in Biology at George Mason University.
